The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation has designated the area of 1,363 acres in Indaw Township, Katha District in Sagaing Region, as “Gahe II Protected Public Forest” as from 14 March 2023, the Forest Law (2018).
The Gahe II protected public forest is designated with the aim of fulfilling the basic needs of local people residing near the protected public forest and preserving and protecting the water and land areas and protecting the natural environment and biological species.
In the area, valuable trees such as teak, Shorea obtusa, sal, Indian laurel and Dipterocarpus tuberculatus are thriving with habitations of wild animals in the safe and sound natural forest. Consequently, the protected public forest will benefit the local people with woods and fuel for daily life. — TWA/KZW
