The meeting was co-chaired by Indonesia and Malaysia, and attended by Eminent Persons, High-Level Representatives and Delegates from ASEAN Member States and Deputy Secretary-General for ASEAN Political and Security Community. The Myanmar delegation led by Dr Wah Wah Maung, Deputy Minister for the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations and Eminent Person of Myanmar to HLTF-ACV accompanied by Permanent Representative of Myanmar to ASEAN U Aung Myo Myint and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed matters pertaining to the development of the Core Elements of ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision, the Modalities for Stakeholders’ Consultation, participation of the Timor Leste as an observer country to the next HLTF meeting, the HLTF Work plan for 2023 and HLTF’s progress report and recommendations to submit the ASEAN Leaders at the 43rd ASEAN Summit to be held in May 2023. Furthermore, the High-Level Task Force also had an interface meeting with the Executive Directors of the ASEAN Foundation and the ASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation to exchange view on drafting the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision.
At the meeting, the deputy minister shared the view that the HLTF should consider the development gaps among ASEAN Member States in drafting the Post-2025 Vision, the vision should be a pragmatic approach which is necessary to assist people-centred development in the region and it is also pertinent to include the mid-term reviews to be able to assess, adapt and respond to the unpredictable future issues and challenges.
The establishment of the High-Level Task Force (HLTF) was agreed at the 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits which were held on 16 October 2022 with the aim of developing the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision. The High-Level Task Force is composed of Eminent Persons and High-Level Representatives from ASEAN Member States. – MNA
