Myanmar Technical Team conducts in-person interviews with extended family members of verified displaced persons in Bangladesh

A 17-member Myanmar Technical Team for in-person verification led by U Aung Myo, Director of the Department of Immigration and Population, Rakhine State visited Teknaf, Bangladesh, from 15 to 22 March 2023.
Myanmar dispatched the Technical Team for in-person verification in coordination with the Bangladesh government at the request of the verified displaced persons from Rakhine State who are to be repatriated under the pilot project to verify their extended family members so that they could return family-wise.
During their stay in Teknaf, the Myanmar Technical Team conducted in-person interviews with around 480 additional family members of the prospective returnees under the pilot project and collected and checked evidence of their past residency in Myanmar as well as documents of the children born in Bangladesh which will be submitted to the respective committees in Myanmar to continue the process whether they are eligible to return to Myanmar.—MNA
