Pakokku U Ohn Pe Literary Awards presented to writers from nation’s literary fields

The 29th Pakokku U Ohn Pe Lifetime Literary Awards, Pakokku Literary Award, Scholarships and Pakokku U Ohn Pe Library Book Awards giving ceremony was held at Horizon Lake View Resort in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
The event was attended by State Administration Council Member Mahn Nyein Maung, Union Ministers U Maung Maung Ohn, U Ko Ko, Dr Myo Thein Kyaw and Jeng Phang Naw Taung, Deputy Minister U Ye Tint, the Permanent Secretary and other relevant officials.
After opening the ceremony, a video clip on the Pakokku U Ohn Pe Literary Award which is invaluable for the literary field was screened.
Then, Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn said the development of Myanmar literature depends on the efforts of experts in Myanmar literature and the efforts of the government and founder of private literature awards are also crucial for it.
The Pakokku U Ohn Pe Literary Award was established in 1994 and it is a long-standing private literary award.
Moreover, the Pakokku U Ohn Pe Lifetime Literary Award and four genres of literary awards are also presented aiming to develop useful literature and Myanmar literature for the readers in the country.
Currently, the lifetime literary award and five types of literary awards are being presented and a total of 35 authors have won the lifetime literary awards to date.
In the education sector, the winners of Pakokku Scholarships are serving supportive duties.
To develop library-related measures and provide good books to the readers, the Pakokku U Ohn Pe Library Book Awards were also presented starting in 2013 and now, 41 books are introduced to the readers.
He also urged the winners to serve the state development programmes with pens (power of writing).
Chairman of the Myanmar Writers Association and Pakokku Literary Award Fund Supervisory Committee U Ohn Maung (Myinmu Maung Naing Moe) gave a remark.
Then, SAC Member Mahn Nyein Maung presented the Pakokku U Ohn Pe Lifetime Literary Awards to the winners while Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn to the prize winners of the novel genre, Union Minister U Ko Ko to the prize winners of selected short stories genre, Union Minister Dr Myo Thein Kyaw to the prize winners of treatise genre, Union Minister Jeng Phang Naw Taung to the prize winners of research literature genre, Deputy Minister U Ye Tint to the National University of Arts and Culture Pakokku U Ohn Pe scholarship award winners, Chairman of the Myanmar Writers Association U Ohn Maung (Myinmu Maung Naing Moe) to the prize winners of selected poems genre and Vice Chair of Pakokku Literary Award Fund Supervisory Committee U Thein Khaing Oo to the prize winners of Pakokku U Ohn Pe Library Book Award.
Afterwards, Pakokku Literary Award for Lifetime Achievements winner Daw Tin Yi (Tin Yi Ma-NyaungU) expressed thanks on behalf of the awardees.
The officials gave 17 prizes in five genres like selected poems, novels, selected short stories, treatises and research including lifetime awards for literary achievements, three Pakokku U Ohn Pe Library Book Awards and two scholarship awards for National University of Arts and Culture. — MNA/KTZH
