Poet and scriptwriter Myint Oo U Myint passes away

A renowned poet and scriptwriter and Film Academy Award winner Myint Oo U Myint (U Myint Oo) passed away on 12 August and he was cremated on the same day. He was 67.
He died of kidney disease, leaving his beloved better half, four daughters and a granddaughter. The artiste body was cremated on the day of his demise as his family fulfilled his last wishes shared with them, according to his wife.
The scriptwriter won a film Acadamy award for the script of the movie titled “ Gyokyar Taungpan Khat Thaan” (Hissing Sound of a Crane’s Wing) directed by film director Zinyaw Maung Maung in 2009. He wrote many poems, short stories and scripts and he was a member of the script association under the Myanmar Motion Picture Organization. He was also a member of the Myanmar Academy Award Scrutiny Board.
“We won Academy awards for the same movie and I feel very sad about the death of my colleague Myint Oo U Myint. I pray and hope that he is in a better place now. With great sadness…,” film director Zinyaw Maung Maung expressed his heartfelt condolences on the loss of the scriptwriter on his social media.
Members of the Myanmar Motion Picture Organization and the people from the film and literary arenas helped the family of the late scriptwriter with the arrangement of the funeral ceremony and also presented in the funeral service. Alms donation dedicated for him by his family will be conducted at their home in Dagon Myothit (North) Township on 18 August. — Htun Htun/TH
