When the market reopened, the prices rose to K1,000 for a small one and K2,000 for the big one. Compared to those, the price has almost doubled.

The retailers from Kawlin township say that they reaped a healthy profit from the sale of pineapples as the price has gone up again.
Annually, abundant pineapples from Bhamo town and Mezar areas are being sold at the Kawlin market by car and three-wheel motorbikes.
Earlier in July, the pineapples were priced at K500 for a small one and K1,500 for two big fruits in the Kawlin market. However, the Kawlin market was temporarily closed from 11 to 17 August to prevent the spreading of COVID-19. When the market reopened, the prices rose to K1,000 for a small one and K2,000 for the big one. Compared to those, the price has almost doubled, said a buyer from the Kawlin market.
Pineapples are mainly sold to farmers from rural areas. A pineapple is currently offered from K1,000 to K3,000, depending on the size and freshness of the fruits, said a retailer. Yearly, the pineapple traders from Kawlin township go to the pineapple plantation in Bhamo and Mezar areas and buy all the pineapple to sell them back in the market. — Myat Tun Min (Kawlin)/GNLM
