Yangon Region dredges Ngamoeyeik Creek to alleviate flooding

In collaboration with the Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department, the Directorate of Water Resources and Improvement of River Systems (DWIR), is enhancing water flow in Ngamoeyeik Creek using state-owned dredgers and heavy machinery.
Severe rains in early October 2023 resulted in flooding in Hlegu, Dagon Myothit (East and North), North Okkalapa, and South Okkalapa townships in the Yangon Region.
Ngamoeyeik Creek, a lengthy stream stretching from Hlegu township to a bridge in North Okkalapa township, will undergo dredging, covering 25,000 feet long and a bottom width of 100 feet.
Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein and his team inspected the work site where Ngamoeyeik Creek was dredged on 8 January.
Additionally, the Yangon Region chief minister and officials supervised the dredging work using ten amphibious excavators and seven Anm backhoes to ensure completion within the specified timeframe. — TWA/MKKS
