9200+ Myanmar workers including welders recruited by the Republic of Korea over 11 months

According to the Public Overseas Employment Agency (POEA), more than 9200 Myanmar workers were sent to South Korea over 11 months under Employment Permit System (EPS).

Of 9239 Myanmar workers who were sent as from January to November 2023, 7000 are manufacturing workers while others are agricultural and livestock workers, construction workers and re-entry workers.

Currently, Myanmar workers have been sent by POEA only under EPS.

Moreover, as Myanmar has also been dispatching skilled workers for shipbuilding in South Korea under E-7-3 visas, another 35 welders were sent to work at Hyundai MIPO Dockyard on 5 December.

South Korea reportedly recruited many Myanmar workers in 2023.
