Palin River View Elephant Camp under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation in NyaungU Township, Mandalay is planned to reopen soon in line with the COVID-19 health guidelines, NyaungU District Administration Council stated.
The Palin River View Elephant Camp has been temporarily closed down since 25 March 2020 in light of COVID-19 precaution measures. The officials concerned are now prepping for reopening, and more recreation sites and viewpoints were built in the camp, including a jetty and tree house for Ayeyawady River View, camps along the river, playgrounds and other facilities. The visitors can watch elephant bathing and also observe the livelihood, habitat, behavior and characteristics of the Asian and African elephants at the elephant museum, featuring the structure of elephants and elephant tusks. The museum exhibits how to tame the elephant as well. The elephant lovers can also study about the white elephant and elephant twins. A local visitor is charged K1,000 while the entrance fee for a tourist is K5,000. The elephant rides cost K5,000 for a local traveller and K10,000 for a tourist. The children, the monks and the nuns can enter the camp free of charge, said U Myo Min Ko, assistant manager of the camp.
There is a total of 22 elephant camps across the country and the elephant lovers can treat them buffet. They can also donate for the elephants via the camp’s official Facebook page.
