Fullmoon Day of Kason celebrated at pagodas in Nay Pyi Taw

Pagodas in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area are alive, with many people celebrating the Kason fullmoon day on 25 May. Health workers and Red Cross Brigade members have taken the COVID-19 protective measures at the celebration venues.
The fullmoon day of Kason is considered a sacred day for Buddhists.
It commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and Nibbana of Buddha.
People celebrate the Kason fullmoon day by pouring water onto the Bo trees, fasting, praying and donating foods at pagodas and monasteries across the country.
Pagodas around Nay Pyi Taw Council Area were also alive with religious prayer groups, residents, pilgrims from the surrounding regions starting from yesterday morning.
Ma Aye Myat Myat Mon, a pilgrim to Uppatasanti pagoda, said, “I go on an annual pilgrimage to the pagodas every fullmoon day of Kason.
And my friends and I clean the pagoda platform and donate soft drinks whenever we come to the Uppatasanti pagoda. I visited Maha Sakkya Yanthi pagoda and Bodh Gaya this morning. I’ll visit perpetual peace pagoda this evening.”
Ko Aung Thu Phyo, who visited Yan Aung Myin Shwe Lat Hla pagoda, said, “After pilgrimage this morning, we’ll go to the playground for the kids. And we will go back home after pouring water onto the Bo tree at the Uppatasanti pagoda.”
Health workers and members of the Red Cross Brigade were carrying out the COVID-19 measures by distributing masks, making temperature checks and educating to wash their hands to the pilgrims. Security forces were taking security measure for the safety of the people. — Lu Lin Nge/GNLM
