Mathoe robe weaving ceremony held at Shwesandaw pagoda in Twantay

The traditional Mathoe Robe Weaving ceremony was held yesterday at Shwesandaw Pagoda, an ancient pagoda in Twantay, Yangon Region.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic last year, the Mathoe Robe Weaving contest could not be held, however, the Mathoe Robe Weaving ceremony is held on six looms at the pagoda. The ceremony was opened by Chairman of the Township Administration Body U Kyaw Myint and Member (1) Major Zar Ni Maung and Chairman of the Shwesandaw Pagoda Board of Trustees U Min Lwin by cutting the ribbon.
The Chairman of the Township Administration Body addressed the ceremony, and the Pagoda Board of Trustees Chairman explained the Mathoe Robe Weaving ceremony.
The robes were weaved on six looms and will be offered to the Buddha images before the dawn on the fullmoon day of Tazaungmon, according to Vice-Chairman of the Pagoda Board of Trustees U Aye Ko.
The Mathoe Robe Weaving Contest was held on nine looms in the past years and nine female groups from the villages participated in the contest and offered the robes to the Buddha images at Shwesandaw Pagoda. — Myo Hlaing (Twantay)/GNLM
