Over 50,000 people received COVID-19 vaccines daily in Yangon

Over 50,000 people have received the COVID-19 vaccines daily in the Yangon region, according to the Ministry of Health.
The vaccine is being given to 36.9 million people over the age of 18 in Myanmar. As of 4 December, there were 12.3 million people who had received two doses of the vaccine and 5.3 million people who had received one dose, over 17.61 million in total, according to the Ministry of Health.
About 35 per cent of the country’s population has been vaccinated against the COVID-19 vaccine. Then, the country announced a goal to vaccinate 50 per cent of the country’s population by the end of this year and 70 per cent of the population by mid-2022.
The country is providing COVID-19 vaccine for those who are over 55 years of age, and those over 45 will be vaccinated.
Earlier, the priority was given to above 65 years of age and now it has extended to above 55 years of age. As well, COVID-19 vaccines have been provided to above 45 years starting from 17 October and to above 40 starting from 9 November, according to Ministry.
Myanmar launched the COVID-19 vaccination programme in January 2021 across the country.
The Ministry also urged people to receive the full dose of the vaccine and those who have received the first dose to visit the nearest immunization location or near the scheduled date for the second dose. — Aye Maung/GNLM
