Illegal timbers, restricted chemicals, consumer goods, foodstuffs, industrial materials and vehicles seized

SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
An on-duty inspection team conducted inspections at the 16th-mile Kyaukchaw checkpoint on 24 and 26 July under the instructions of the Chairman of the Anti-Illicit Trade Task Force.
Officials confiscated K3,161,000 worth of consumer goods without official documents from a Mitsubishi Canter car (approximately K8 million) and action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, 400 bags of restricted chemicals – ammonium nitrate – worth K40 million from a Nissan truck (approximately K30 million) were captured and action was taken under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
In addition, a combined on-duty team made inspections at the Mayanchaung Permanent Checkpoint in Mon State.
They seized K3,360,000 worth of baby shampoo without official documents from a Hino truck (approximately K40 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon on 25 July and K2,250,000 worth of foodstuffs without official documents from a Hyundai Express bus (approximately K20 million) heading from Myawady to Yangon on 26 July. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Afterwards, on 26 July, the container checkpoint of Hteedan Port Terminal confiscated industrial materials worth K92,500,000 that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) and action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, a total of 5.2108 tonnes of illegal Taungthayat timber worth K364,756 were captured at Phoneso Jetty in Gwa township of Thandwe district under the Rakhine State Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
In addition, on 27 July, a total of 7.4320 tonnes of illegal teak and hardwood at an estimated value of K2,037,360 were impounded in Yoma protected forest in Yedashe township of Toungoo district and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
On the same day, a team led by the regional Customs Department conducted unexpected inspections near Phayagyi Tollgate and captured construction materials worth K10,064,000 without declaration in Import Declaration (ID) from an Isuzu truck with a trailer (approximately K60 million). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Therefore, 14 arrests (approximately K311,737,116) were made on four consecutive days from 24 to 27 July, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
