Wanet Elephant Camp attracted 300 homegrown visitors during the three-day Thadingyut Festival (8-10 October).
Wanet Elephant Camp is on the way to Yeywa Dam between Mandalay and PyinOoLwin. The camp attracts visitors with the natural scenic beauty of the mountains, the superb facilities and fun activities with the elephants, said U Toe Aung, assistant manager of Wahnet and Deedote elephant camps under the Myanma Timber Enterprise.
“Visitors came to the elephant camp for relaxation in the forest and enjoyed the elephant feeding experience. The camp was crowded with visitors throughout all three days”, he added.
There are three male elephants and five female elephants at the camp. Normally, only the four elephants provide service. During the Thadingyut Festival, all the elephants serve the guests at the camp.
“The visitors have to go into the small forest of teak, raintree and neem trees. They enjoy forest bathing benefits as well. Our staff preserve the forest and fulfil the facilities”, he continued.
The visitors can observe the natural scenery by elephant ride, elephant feeding and taking photos with elephants. A short trip is estimated at K3,000 while an elephant ride for long-distance costs K5,000. — Maung Aye Chan/GNLM
