ECD releases statement regarding air quality analysis in September

The Environmental Conservation Department (ECD) issued the status of air quality analysis in September.
Regular measurements of main parameters such as Environmental Perimeter Air Station (EPAS)-Haz-Scanner, Particulate Matter 2.5 (PM2.5), Particulate Matter 10 (PM10), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2), Sulphur Dioxide (SO2), Ozone (O3) and Carbon Monoxide (CO) in the air quality of Union Territory, Regions and States, are constantly analyzed by the ECD for the study of ambient air quality throughout Myanmar.
The ECD notified ambient air quality results of September 2022 which were calculated with the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Nay Pyi Taw, Yangon, Mandalay, Monywa, Dawei, Myitkyina, Loikaw, Hpa-an, Mawlamyine, Sittway, Tachilek and Lashio.
The AQI index between 0 and 50 is referred to as the green level which represents good air quality. Index number 51 to 100 means yellow level and can moderately affect people with low resistance. In addition, index numbers 101 to 150 (orange level) can affect the health of people with weak resistance. AQI index between 151 and 200 represents the red level and can affect the health of people, especially those who have low resistance. Index numbers 201 to 300 (purple level) can severely affect people’s health, and index 301 to 500 is a crimson level which needs to be reported as a health emergency.
It is reported that ambient air quality results can change according to the air temperature, wind speed, wind direction, humidity, rainfall condition, condition of vehicle use, the status of fume emissions from factories and the condition of surroundings where the ambient air quality is measured. — TWA/GNLM
