Thayu (Pe Pa Don) Bridge project 39% completed

For the development of transportation in Rakhine State, the new Thayu (Pe Pa Don) Bridge was being constructed on the Minbu-An-Sittway Road of An Township in An District, Rakhine State, by the Department of Bridges under the Ministry of Construction. It is known that the bridge project is now 39 per cent completed. The Department of Bridges stated that the new Thayu (Pe Pa Don) Bridge, being constructed across Thayu Creek, is about 50 feet downstream from the original suspension bridge. The construction work started on 1 December 2021, and the bridge is going to cost K4.03 billion.
The 400-foot-long, 24-foot-wide two-lane bridge will be able to bear up to the weight of 60 tonnes and the water clearance will be 22.2 feet high and 80 feet wide. The foundation of the bridge is bored pile type. The bridge’s body will be constructed with RC concrete and the upper body with PC girder and RC decking slab, according to U Kyaw Thura, deputy director (Civil) of the bridge task force (8).
On completion, the bridge will contribute to the smooth transportation of passengers and goods to and from Minbu, An, Ma-ei, Kyaukpyu, Yanbye, Taungup, Thandwe, Myebon, Minbya, Pauktaw, MraukU, Kyauktaw, Ponnagyun, Sittway, Buthidaung and Maungtaw.
The construction of the new bridge is estimated to be completed at the end of March 2024, according to the Ministry of Construction. — Pwint Thitsa/GNLM
