MSMEs notified of loan type, PFIs

SME Development Coordinating Committee notified those micro, small and medium enterprises of types of loans and Participating Financial Institutions (PFIs).
Myanmar Citizens Bank, Kanbawza, Myanma Economic Bank (MEB), Co-operative Bank, Ayeyawady Bank, First Private Bank, United Amara Bank, Nay Pyi Taw Development Bank, SME Development Bank, Myanma Apex Bank and Myanmar Oriental Bank are PFIs for the JICA two-step loan. A maximum mortgaged-backed loan of K50 million can be taken out at an annual interest rate of 5.5 per cent. The loan tenure is set above one to five years. The interest rate is six to 10 per cent for loans with a partial credit guarantee.
Additionally, the MSME loan tenure by MEB is up to five years and the maximum loan amount is K300 million. The interest rate for a loan with immovable property collateral is 6.5 per cent per annum, while the rate for a partial credit guarantee loan ranges from seven to nine per cent pa. The rate increases to 8.5 to 11.5 per cent pa for securing loans by machines.
If the collateral is a document concerning the ownership of an immovable property (land or building), it is the Credit Guarantee Insurance (CGI collateral).
This loan scheme has been initiated since 2012 for SME development and financing for business expansion.
As of November 2022, a total of 2,045 entrepreneurs have been granted K364,534.18 million under the JICA Two-Step Loan (MSME), while SMIDB (SME) loan has covered 456 businesspersons (K20,638 million), as per the Committee’s statement.
Furthermore, the MEB (MSME) loan provided K25,977 million to 342 MSMEs. – TWA/EMM
