CBM Governor attends SEACEN Governors’ Conference, ASEAN Central Bank Governors’ Meeting

Central Bank of Myanmar Governor Daw Than Than Swe led a delegation to the 59th SEACEN Governors’ Conference/High-Level Seminar and the 43rd ASEAN Central Bank Governors’ Meeting convened in Mumbai, India, on 15 and 16 February.
On 15 February, the seminar, titled “Navigating Economic Headwinds and Advancing Financial Inclusion: Perspective and Challenges”, took place. Ms Petya Koeva Brooks, Assistant Director in the IMF’s Research Department, presented “Insights on the Global and Emerging Markets Economic Outlook”. Mr Francois Villeroy de Galhau, Governor of Banque de France, discussed “The Road to 2 per cent Inflation Target, Which Challenges Ahead?”
The first part of the ASEAN Central Bank Governors’ roundtable discussion revolved around “The Drivers and Road to Achieving Inflation Targets-Challenges Ahead”.
The second and third parts centred on “Challenges and Implications of Higher for Longer Interest Rates” and “No One Behind: The Role of Digital Public Infrastructure in Financial Inclusion”, respectively.
The 43rd ASEAN Central Bank Governors’ Meeting was held on 16 February. Executive Director at The SEACEN Centre, Dr Mangal Goswami, presented the Centre’s operations in 2023, priorities for 2024, and plans pending the Governor’s decision. The Central Bank Governors offered their suggestions.
Additionally, the Myanmar Central Bank Governor convened a bilateral meeting with her Indian counterpart about direct payments between the rupee and kyat in trading and improving cooperation in payment-related matters. — MNA/NT
