The Yangon Region Internal Revenue Department.

According to the Internal Revenue Department, holders of seaman and job passports are required to pay income tax based on the exchange rates set by the Central Bank of Myanmar.
When applying for tax clearance certificates at the relevant tax offices, individuals must remit taxes on their salaries in foreign currency, along with an additional two per cent of their income as advance tax based on the CBM rates. Subsequently, they will receive receipts from the bank.
Upon presenting proof of tax payment, the office will issue the certificate containing approved security clearance from the system. If additional taxes are owed as per Myanmar’s tax laws or the laws of the taxpayer’s destination country, the agreed amount will be adjusted accordingly. The bank will issue receipts for future payments.
The application form for the certificate requires a K50 postage stamp, along with the submission of a passport, copies of the citizenship scrutiny card, and the household registration list. Additionally, evidence of salary, along with either an employment contract or certificate of employment, must be provided.
Taxpayers have the option to engage an agent, who must be represented by a stamped letter of authorization in accordance with the provisions outlined in the Myanmar Stamp Act. Tax payments can be made in person at the bank, as well as through mobile banking and MPU cards. The Internal Revenue Department assures prompt issuance of tax clearance certificates, promising efficiency and timeliness throughout the process. — TWA/NT
