Authorities take action against individuals for social media propaganda

On 1 April, authorities took action against two individuals for allegedly inciting and circulating propaganda on social media, which could disrupt law and order.
Suspects are Yadana Hmwe, the purported owner of the Facebook accounts “Smile Smile” and “Yadanalay Yadanalay”, residing in Kyaunggon Township, Ayeyawady Region, and Aung Sein Tun, an alleged user of the “Aung Zin Htun” Facebook account, living in Thabeikkyin Township, Mandalay Region.
Terrorist groups such as CRPH and NUG, along with associated organizations and individuals, have been spreading propaganda and issuing threats that undermine the governance of the State and the safety of people.
Anyone who unwittingly or under duress propagates or involves themselves in their propaganda and incitements in any way may be subject to prosecution under Section 52 (a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law, Sections 124 (a) and 505 (a) of the Penal Code, Section 33 (a) of the Electronic Transactions Law, and relevant criminal statutes. In accordance with the Counter-Terrorism Law, both movable and immovable property could be seized and, upon conviction, may be considered State assets.
