AFC Cup play-off: Yangon United trounce Brunei’s Indera SC in 1st leg

Myanmar National League powerhouse Yangon United beat Brunei Darussalam’s Indera Sports Club (SC) by 6-1 in the first leg of the AFC Cup 2020 play-off on 22 January at the HassanalBolkiah National Stadium in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei.
Yangon United, which is representing Myanmar, had secured a place in the play-off stage of the tourney after winning the 2019 General Aung San Shield.
Brunei’s Indera SC qualified for the preliminary stage of the AFC Cup 2020 as the team met the AFC club licensing requirements, according to officials.
Yangon United relied on their strikers to dominate over the Brunei team.
Than Paing scored the opener for Yangon United at 11 minutes, and he made the second goal for the team at 18 minutes.
Yangon United landed their third goal at 43 minutes, when Ernest Barfo scored a quick goal to establish a 3-0 lead.
Barfo scored the fourth goal for Yangon United and MaungMaungLwin netted the fifth goal at 58 minutes.
The sixth and final goal for Yangon was scored by AungKyawNaing at 71 minutes.
Five minutes later, Indera player Marcelo Carvalho bagged a goal for his team, but the match ended with a 6-1 win for Yangon United.
The second leg of the tie will be played on 29 January at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, and the winner of the first and second leg will enter the group stage of the AFC Cup 2020. —Lynn Thit (Tgi)
