Customs operations at Dagon Myothit (East) Township dry ports inspected

Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Planning and Finance Union Minister U Win Shein, accompanied by Union Minister U Tun Ohn of the Ministry of Commerce, inspected KM Dry Port and Resources Group Dry Port in Ywathagyi, Dagon Myothit (East) Township, Yangon Region, yesterday. The inspection focused on import and export processes, customs warehouse operations, and collaboration between Myanmar Railways and the Customs Department.
During the visit, officials from KM Dry Port and RG Dry Port provided insights into the business conditions related to importing and exporting goods, including entering and releasing goods into the customs warehouse and utilizing warehouse management systems. The Customs Department elaborated on container import and export conditions, the issuance of imported goods and electric vehicles, and the inspection of export-bound containers at the customs warehouse.
Union Minister U Win Shein expressed commitment to cooperate with relevant departments, emphasizing the need to extend the dry port operations internationally. He highlighted Myanmar’s strategic location in Southeast Asia and stressed the importance of collaborating with countries like Thailand and Viet Nam, which are already developing their dry ports.
The Union minister also mentioned the opportunities arising from the dry port’s proximity to manufacturing zones, indicating plans for direct exports from Mandalay (Myitnge) to Yangon (Thilawa) port by train. He emphasized modern technologies, such as the E-Lock system and the future integration of x-ray machines for inspections at dry ports. The Union minister encouraged adherence to rules and regulations in customs warehouse operations and expressed a commitment to address business difficulties for mutual benefit.
Concluding the inspection, the Deputy Prime Minister observed ongoing work at the dry ports and addressed coordination and resolution of identified requirements. — MNA/TS
