Illegal teak, foodstuffs, consumer goods and vehicles confiscated

SUPERVISED by Customs Department, an on-duty team conducted inspections on 16 November.
Officials captured K17,598,866 worth of foodstuffs that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) from a Hino Profia Truck (estimated value of K35 million) in front of Bago Industrial Zone on Myawady-Hpa-an-Yangon Road. The action was taken under Customs Procedures.
Similarly, an inspection team under the management of Mandalay Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force nabbed 143 cartons of Cocktail worth K3,432,000 near 18/4 Milepost on Mandalay-PyinOoLwin Road on 16 November, K9,065,000 worth of clothes and foodstuffs without official documents from a Hyundai Express Bus (approximately K20 million) at the Letpanhla-Singu Temporary Checkpoint on 17 November. The action was taken under Customs Procedures.
On 17 November, a total of 8.4942 tonnes of illegal sawn teaks worth K5,606,172 in Taungup township of Rakhine State and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
In addition, at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) Combined Checkpoint confiscated 90 rice cookers worth K1.8 million and 42 cartons of detergent powder worth K1.26 million without official documents from two vehicles on 17 and 18 November and action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
A total of 28.4768 tonnes of illegal teaks was captured in Pyu, Yedashe and Ottwin townships and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 11 arrests (at an estimated value of K103,732,526) were made on three consecutive days from 16 and 18 November, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
