Illegal timbers, consumer goods and vehicles confiscated

A combined team led by the Lewe Township Forest Department conducted inspections on 17 June and impounded a total of 5.29 tonnes of illegal timbers (worth K370,314) in Lewe Township. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
Similarly, an on-duty team confiscated a Mazda Tian car (approximately K15 million) carrying four kinds of goods (worth K6.47 million) including 9,000 boxes of Lactasoy without official documents at the Thanlwin Bridge (Mawlamyine) on 18 June. The action was taken in adherence to Customs procedures.
Additionally, an on-duty team at the Mandalay International Airport (Import Desk) captured five kinds of jewellery (worth K9.61 million) including 20 necklaces studded with precious stones without Import approval documents from luggage. The action was taken under Customs procedures.
A total of 5.455 tonnes of illegal timber (worth K381,850) was seized in DaikU township on 20 June and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
As a result, a total of five arrests were made on 17, 18 and 20 June, with an estimated value of K31,832,164, as reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
