SUPERVISED by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken to prevent illegal trade under the law.
Under the instructions of the Mandalay Region Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force, an on-duty team made inspections at the 16th-mile Kyaukchaw Checkpoint on 7 August.
Officials confiscated a total of 1.5912 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K1,591,200 from a Hino Ranger car (approximately K11 million) heading from Mandalay to Muse township. The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, an on-duty team made inspections at the Hteedan Container Checkpoint in Yangon Region under the management of the Customs Procedures.
They captured K298,130,000 worth of industrial machines that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID). The action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
In addition, on 8 August, an on-duty combined inspection team at the Nantseeaung combined checkpoint confiscated a total of 1,950 kilogrammes of a restricted chemical – Ammonium Nitrate – worth K1.95 million from a Nissan Diesel 12-wheel truck (approximately K30 million) heading from Mandalay to Mohnyin township. The action was taken under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law.
Similarly, a team led by the Forest Department and Myanmar Police Force seized a total of 2.7234 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K560,486 in the Chaungtha forest reserve, Pyapon township and Pathein township. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
In addition, a team led by the Myanmar Police Force captured K4 million worth of an unregistered Honda CRV car in Pyapon township and action was taken under the Export and Import Law.
Afterwards, a total of 4.0976 tonnes of illegal timbers worth K733,890 from a wooden motorboat (approximately K800,000) and related things were confiscated in the Chaunghnapwa Creek in Kyunsu township of Myeik district. The action was taken under the Forest Law.
On 9 August, a total of 0.5216 tonne of illegal ironwood worth K260,800 was seized in the Kyaukmasin forest reserve of Yedashe township of Toungoo district and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 10 arrests estimated at K349,026,376 were made on three consecutive days from 7 to 9 August, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
