the Union Energy Minister called for increased production of fertilizer to reduce the demand for foreign currency, during his visit to No 5 Fertilizer Factory (Kangyidaunt) on 29 July which is running with locally produced natural gas under the supervision of Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise.
He also called on the staff to increase fertilizer production, ensure equipment maintenance, be fully operational throughout the year and undertake environmental impact assessment.
Additionally, he observed automated control and operation of the factory under the distributed control system and fertilizer packaging line for distribution.
Fertilizer produced from that plant is being distributed to the farmers at a fairer price through an evaluation committee on fertilizer quota.
In June, Myanmar imported 144,900 tonnes of fertilizer worth US$58.041 million via sea-borne and border trade channels, the Ministry of Commerce’s statistics showed. — TWA/EM
