A stadium is being constructed with regional government funds near the football playground in Maungtaw Township, Rakhine State.
The stadium will be 120 feet in length, 90 feet in width and 36 feet in height. It is being built on a 6.5-acre plot of land. The stadium will cost Ks29.2 million of the state government’s funds. Volleyball, badminton, sepak takraw, karate-do and table tennis games will be held in the stadium upon completion of construction. A football spectators stand will also be upgraded, said U Zaw Min Htwe, head of the township sport and physical education department in Maungtaw.
“Every township should have a stadium as a sports facility. Sportsman can play in the stadium the whole year around,” he added.
Construction on the stadium began on 5 December by Shwekyun Thanda Construction Company, with completion slated for March. The company will hand over the building to the Sports and Physical Education Department, Maungtaw Township at the end of March.—Zin Oo, Ko MinDSC 6221
