The Mandalay government will use more than K3 billion for water supply operations during summer in 139 villages of 22 townships in the coming financial year, said the regional Rural Development Department.
The water supply operations will provide water to a total of 110,366 people of 23,542 houses in 139 villages of 22 townships by using water from 140 wells, including swallow wells and hand-dug wells.
The tender winning companies will operate the water supply operations starting the third week of this month, said U Soe Than, Director for regional Rural Development Department.
“We will spend more than K3 billion of Union Budget for the people living in 139 villages of 22 townships not to face water shortage problems in summer months. We will sign contracts with the tender winning companies in the second week of this month. 37 companies out of 51 won the tender. They survey during the second week of this month. We will carry out for the people not to face water shortages this summer,” he said. The water supply projects will be implemented in 22 townships PyinOoLwin, Patheingyi, Madaya, Kaukse, Sintgaing, Myittha, TadaU, Meiktila, Mahlaing, Wundwin, Thazi, Taungtha, Natogyi, Ngazun, Pyawbwe, NyaungU, Kyaukpadaung, Yamethin, Myingyan, Thabeikkyin, Singu and Mogok townships.
In 2019-2020FY, the regional government also used a total K900 million budget to construct reservoirs to save rainwater for 76 villages of 13 townships where faced water crisis.—Ko Thurin (Mdy) (Translated by Khine Thazin Han)
