Lively Thingyan Festival underway in Myitkyina

With six water festival pavilions including the central pavilion, arrangements are being made to hold a grand and lively event of the 1384 Myanmar Traditional Thingyan Festival in Myitkyina, the capital city of Kachin State.
A central pavilion have been built in Myitkyina City, from Sumprabum Road to Samar Road Junction (to Jade Traffic Point).
Six water festival pavilions and entertainment pavilions of local business groups are being built along Samar Road from Jade Traffic Point.
Regarding the preparations for the Thingyan Festival, U Hla Moe, Executive Officer of Myitkyina Township Development committee, said that the central pavilion was built with a steel structure of 170 and 65 square feet to accommodate 400 spectators and took a month to build.
He clarified that 3 temporary water tanks with a capacity of 12,000 gallons of water have been built in the central pavilion for water availability, and it will be possible to sprinkle about 150,000 gallons of water per day.
Similarly, four departmental food pavilions, big boats and fragrance-spraying pavilions have been built along Sumprabum Road, where the central pavilion and walking Thingyan are located, which can feed 1,500 people daily.
To obtain water, city water supply pipelines and wells have been excavated, two temporary water tanks with a capacity of 250,000 gallons have been built, and arrangements have been made to spray about 300,000 gallons of water per day.
In addition, people will be able to play water happily with entertainment programs at the water festival pavilion 6 of local businessmen’s groups on Samar Street, under the guidance of the Thingyan Festival Steering Committee.
Similarly, in the central pavilion, there will be beautiful dances and modern music performances in the morning and evening.
In the evening, departmental organizations and 13 groups from the city will perform with their own songs, and bands.
Choreographed group dance competitions with CD music will also be held every day according to the specified category, and choreographed dance troupes will be given the honour they deserve.
The Kachin state government will hold this year’s Myanmar traditional water festival, the Thingyan festival, in a more crowded manner than in previous years. During the Thingyan period, the first ordination ceremony and the opening of meditation centres were held for the employees. On the first day of Myanmar’s new year, ceremony for paying respects to elders and, a fish release ceremony, will be held. — Kachin IRPD/KZL
