Myanmar and China are discussing establishment a new Muse-Mandalay railway and Mandalay-Kyaukphyu railway section under the Myanmar-China railway cooperation project, according to the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister General Mya Tun Oo discussed these two aspects at the Global Sustainable Transport Forum held in Beijing, China, on 25 and 26 September.
The Union minister visited the headquarters of China Railway Group Co Ltd in Beijing on 24 September, observed the Railway Museum, and discussed the feasibility study for a new Muse-Mandalay railway and Mandalay-Kyaukphyu railway section.
On 25 September, he proceeded to the headquarters of China Railway and observed the Centralized Traffic Control-CTC. He received the presidents and officials of China Communication Construction Co Ltd and China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd on 26 September.
During the visit, he also met with Chinese Vice Premier Mr He Lifeng on the morning of 25 September, and Chinese Transport Minister Mr Li Xiaopeng on the evening of 26 September and exchanged views on the enhancement of cooperation in the transport sector, acceleration of existing projects and future work plans.
The Myanmar delegation led by the Union minister also attended the plenary session, ministerial roundtable discussion and related meetings of the Global Sustainable Transport Forum.
The opening ceremony of the Global Sustainable Transport Forum was held at the China National Convention Centre (CNCC) on 25 September and attended by ministers, officials of international transport organizations from 18 countries and other experts and entrepreneurs from over 60 countries.
The Myanmar delegation arrived back on the evening of 27 September. — ASH/KTZH
