Myanmar delegation arrives back after ICJ meeting

CONCERNING the application filed by the Gambia at the International Court of Justice alleging Myanmar of violating the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, the Gambia filed its Memorial to the Court on 23 October 2020 and Myanmar filed its Counter-Memorial on 24 August 2023 accordingly. In this connection, Myanmar was informed by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) that the President of the Court will receive the Agents of the Parties to discuss the subsequent procedure in the case on 26 September 2023 at the International Court of Justice, The Hague. The Myanmar delegation led by U Ko Ko Hlaing, Agent of Myanmar and Union Minister at the Office of Union Government 2, and Dr Thida Oo, Alternate Agent of Myanmar and Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Union Attorney-General, travelled to the Netherlands to attend the meeting with the President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The Myanmar delegation left for The Hague, the Netherlands, on the morning on 24 September 2023 and arrived at The Hague on the morning on 25 September 2023.
On 26 September 2023, the President and the Agents of the Parties discussed the subsequent procedure in the case filed by the Gambia against Myanmar at the International Court of Justice, The Hague.
The Myanmar delegation departed from The Hague on the morning on 27 September 2023 and safely arrived back at Yangon on the morning on 28 September 2023. — MNA
