On 3 April, the Myanmar Embassy in New Delhi urged those visiting India for various reasons to officially declare the amount of US dollars on arrival.
As stated in the Guide for Travellers by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs of the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, Government of India, passengers with prohibited goods, customs items and items that exceed the specified tax exemption must fill out the customs declaration form and make an official declaration at the Customs Office at the airport, according to the law of India. If the amount is more than US$5,000 or the foreign currency equivalent of US$500, it is necessary to make a declaration.
In addition, Myanmar nationals who are going to India can visit https://www.cbic.gov.in/resources/htdocs-cbec/baggage-rules.pdf for detailed information.
It is stated in the notice that Myanmar pilgrims to Bodh Gaya and those coming to India for medical treatment should use the money they brought only after making an official declaration since there are investigations about the possession of US dollars, seizure of foreign currency and arrest proceedings by immigration authorities at the Gaya Airport. — TWA/CT
