National Flag lowered to half-mast at Secretariat to mark 76th Martyrs’ Day

A ceremony of lowering the State Flag to half-mast was held at the Secretariat (former Ministers’ Office) where General Aung San and leaders were assassinated, to mark the 76th Martyrs’ Day on the morning of 19 July 2023.
Yangon City Development Committee Chairman Yangon Mayor U Bo Htay and members, departmental staff and the Guard of Honour attended the event and saluted General Aung San and the fallen leaders. Then, they lowered the National Flag to half-mast and stood in silence for two minutes.
People visited the meeting hall where the leaders fell and the parliamentary building, located in the Secretariat (former Ministers’ Office), as a special exhibition, between 8 am and 4 pm yesterday. On other days, the meeting room, the parliamentary building and other historical sites are open to the public from 9 am to 6 pm.
Visitors thronged to the meeting hall where martyred leaders were assassinated, 28 types of exhibits that remained of martyred leaders and other historical records in the parliament building, which is more than a hundred years old yesterday.
People and vehicles on the road stopped and commemorated the fallen leaders by saluting and honking at 10:37 am on the 76th Martyrs’ Day. — MNA/KZL
