National Tourism Development Central Committee meeting 2/2023 held

State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo, as Chairman of the National Tourism Development Central Committee, attended the 2/2023 meeting of the committee in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
Speaking at the meeting, the General said the tourism industry includes hospitality (accommodation and restaurants), transportation (airlines), travel facilitation (travel agents and guides) and entertainment. Therefore, tourism is regarded as the world’s largest and developing industry.
Most of the world’s countries, including Myanmar, bore the brunt of the COVID-19 outbreak and now emphasize the tourism industry’s recovery in the post-COVID-19 period.
The tourist arrivals to Myanmar show an increase within ten months from January to October 2023, and it offers a 471 per cent increase compared to last year.
He also urged the private tourism entrepreneurs to connect with the target countries so they can promote their market, conduct FAM Trip, broadcast the seasonal festivals of respective regions and states, advertise the information regarding the event calendar and explore new tourist destinations in the country to attract the local and foreign travellers.
He also called on officials of departments concerned, region/state government and tourism organizations to ensure the sustainability of tourism that earns foreign incomes for the country and accessible destinations for the whole year round.
Then, Deputy Chairperson of the Committee Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr Thet Thet Khine reported on the tourism-related matters.
Moreover, the committee joint secretary Deputy Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Phyo Zaw Soe presented the implementation of decisions set at the 1/2023 committee meeting, the reshuffle of the tourism committee, six region and state tourism working committees, including Nay Pyi Taw Council, drafting SOP for local pilgrimage agents, security measures in destinations and other matters. — MNA/KTZH
