Pebble production becomes income source for locals

Ayataw 1

Local people in Magyikan Village, Ayadaw Township, Sagaing Region, are engaged in production of pebbles  from a creek following the completion of agricultural works.
“We can earn K 30,000 per sud on sales of pebbles to the merchants. Pebbles are essential for construction of buildings, roads and bridges. Merchants pay K500 per one basket of pebbles. A family of five can earn K25,000 to K30,000 per day from pebble production,” said a local.
Currently, farmers do not need farm workers for agricultural work. So, local people earn incomes from pebble production.–Township IPRD
