Police seize illegal timber, vehicle and handsets

The Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee takes strict action against illegal trade under the law.
On 17 January, the inspector (Mandalay) and Inspection and Illegal Trade Eradication Department, Customs Department made an inspection at the (21/3) milepost on the Mandalay-Lashio-Muse Union Highway. They seized a total of K280,644,000 worth of illegal products – 1,705 handsets (K250,644,000) in 1F/8750 (Yutong bus) and one Yutong bus (K30,000,000), and took action as per the procedures of the Customs Department.
Similarly, the Mon State Forest Department also confiscated K3,654,100 worth of illegal gum-kino wood (7.3082 tonnes) near Myoma (Taung) area in Thanbyuzayat Township of Mawlamyine District and took action according to the procedures of the Forest Department.
Moreover, the Ayeyawady Region Forest Department conducted an inspection and found K292,177,240 worth of various illegal timber (172.085 tonnes) in Pathein, Thabaung and Mawlamyinegyun townships and took action in line with the procedures of the department.
The Bago Region Forest Department also seized a total of K2,111,400 worth of various illegal timber (0.921 tonne) – K2,019,300 worth of teak (10.006 tonnes) and K92,100 worth of other woods in forest reserves of Toungoo and Thayawady districts yesterday. They took action following the procedures of the department.

Then, the Sagaing Region Forest Department seized a total of K167,660 worth of 1.275 tonnes of various illegal timber and one Jiangdong engine (1hp) in Phaungbyin Township of Mawlaik District and took action as per the procedures of the department.
There were six arrest cases worth K578,754,400 on 17 and 18 January, the committee stated. — MNA
