THE prices of mung beans have remained unchanged during the week starting on July 30, wholesalers said.
According to the market, the price of mung beans was Ks422,000 per ton on July 30. It increased to Ks435,000 per ton on the following day.
The price of a ton of the same crop decreased to Ks430,000 on August 1, Ks426,000 on August 2 and Ks423,500 on
Wholesalers say that five containers of mung beans were traded on July 30 in the Yangon market.
The number rose to 45 containers on the next day. Merchants traded 15 containers of mung beans on August 1, 30 containers on August 2 and only five containers on August 3.
Local consumption for this variety of crop is high and the prices of mung beans are traditionally higher than the pigeon peas (red grams) in the domestic market.
However, the prices of pigeon peas were significantly higher than that of mung beans in Yangon market during June and July of this year.
Mung beans have been exported to India, Pakistan, Dubai, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. India allowed Myanmar to send its import quota of 1.5 tons of mung beans this season.
