Bilateral Project Screening Meeting on Small Development Projects (SDP) to be implemented by Indian Grants was held at the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations, in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday. The meeting is led by Deputy Minister for Investment and Foreign Economic Relations (MIFER), Dr Wah Wah Maung on the Myanmar side and Deputy Chief of the Mission of India Embassy in Yangon, Mr Ashish Sharma on the India side.
They cordially discussed matters on bilateral economic cooperation on Indian Grant Aid and Technical Assistance Projects, project proposals and the status of the screening process, mutual consultation and suggestions, and requirements for additional information about proposed projects. The projects from the Myanmar side are proposed by nine ministries: the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Border Affairs, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Electric Power, Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Science and Technology to be implemented under Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Indian Grant Assistance for Implementation of Small-scale Development Projects signed between Myanmar and India. MIFER senior officials also attended the meeting.
MIFER is a focal point for cooperation and negotiation in the matters of implementing the Grant Aid and Technical Assistance Projects between the relevant ministries, organizations and development partners.
Small-scale Development Project is a quick-win grant project provided by the Indian Government with a maximum amount of US$2 million for implementing each socioeconomic development project, especially in infrastructure, health, education and community development sectors. — MNA
