Relief assistance provided to flood victims

The Tropical Storm Noul turned into low depression as it passed through Myanmar. It caused strong winds, heavy rains and tides, resulting in damages of property in some areas of the country. A total of 3,700 people from over 900 households were affected by floods in Kawthong, Myeik, Pulaw, Bokpyin, Kyunsu, Launglon, Thayetchaung and Yebyu townships of Taninthayi Region from 17 to 20 September. The tides in Ye, Paung and Kyaikto townships of Mon State on 19 September has caused 3 deaths and damages to 90 houses. In some villages of Kawa Township of Bago Region, torrential rains and tides from Sittoung River on 18 and 19 September caused evacuation of over 7,000 residents from 1,500 houses.
Tidal waves destroyed over 70 houses in Pyapon and Dadeye townships of Ayeyawady Region, and 300 locals from 70 household were taken to the safe shelters. Officials from the Disaster Management Department under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement provided relief assistance to the victims of these disasters. People in the disaster-prone areas have been advised to follow weather wearnings and to contact the hot-line numbers 067-3404666 and 067-3404777 for helps.—MNA
