Thanlyin Bridge-3 crossing Bago River 75.5 per cent complete

Thanlyin Bridge-3 crossing Bago River is under construction as the more important transport facility for smooth and swift flow of commodities along the route of Yangon-Thanlyin-Thilawa Special Economic Zone in Yangon Region.
The Department of Bridges under the Ministry of Construction is taking responsibilities for implementation of the bridge project. So far, construction of the bridge has completed by 75.5 per cent, according to the Deputy Director General of the Department of Bridges.
The bridge project is being implemented with Yen 31 billion of ODA loan with soft interest rate from Japan International Cooperation Agency-JICA. The loan period was set for 40 years including 10 years suspended period. The bridge will be 8,638.86 feet long, and it will be built in three sections. The bridge will be a reinforced concrete steel cable suspension type. The main structure of the bridge will be 22.9 metres long with 13 metres high of clearance. The facility can withstand 75 tonnes of loads for each vehicle.
Japanese consultant engineers participate in construction of the bridge applying Japanese technologies.
Currently, the approach bridge on Thanlyin bank has been installed with TC box, and piers P11 and P12 have been built with the pier heads. Steel box beams are being installed from P16 to P19 piers. Remaining piers are under construction.
As the Department of Bridges slates to complete the bridge construction in mid-2024, engineers and skilled labours are pouring out utmost efforts in implementing the project to be completed on schedules.
Upon completion, local people will have easy access to the special economic zone in Thanlyin Township, Kayan and Thongwa townships in Yangon Region as well as to Bago Region.
Thanlyin Bridge which is the first-ever bridge across Bago River linking Thanlyin and Yangon. Some 30 years old Thanlyin Bridge is 2.2 kilometres long.
Thanlyin Bridge-2 links the cities of Thanlyin and Yangon. The 1.38 km long second bridge links Dagon Myothit (Seikkan) township on the Yangon side and Kalawe village on the Thanlyin side. — Hsan Kyaw Oo (IPRD)/TTA
