The Opening Ceremony of DW Akademie Office

Union Minister for Information Dr. Pe Myint attended the opening ceremony of DW Akademie office held at the compound of the Goethe Institute in Kaba-Aye Pagoda Road, Yangon yesterday evening.
At the ceremony Head of DW Akademie Ms. Ute Schaeffer and German Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Dorothee Janetzke-Wenzel delivered opening speeches followed with a speech by Union Minister for Information Dr. Pe Myint.
Next, the four years of DW Akademie’s work in media development of Myanmar was shown by a video.
Afterwards, outgoing Country Manager Mr. Patrick Benning and Country Representative Ms. Isabella Kurkowski who had completed their assignment in DW Akademie Yangon Office spoke and incoming Country Manager Ms. Eva Mehl extended greetings.
Union Minister for Information Dr. Pe Myint and officials from DW Akademie then posed for a commemorative group photo. Starting from 2014, DW Akademie plays a main supporting role in the establishment of Myanmar Journalism Institute (MJI) and Myanmar Press Council. DW Akademie helped organise workshops and annual media development conferences between media, civil society organisations and the government and supported and assisted in the digital opportunities, media information literacy and media viability sectors.
DW Akademie is Germany’s leading front line association in media development playing a leading role together with partner organizations on development of free media systems, development of rights to obtain news and establishing norms for an independent media.
The ceremony was attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Phyo Min Thein, officials from Myanmar Press Council and international organizations working for media development.
