23 visitors plunge into water in broken U Bein Bridge, resulting in injuries

According to the report of the Fire Brigade, a total of 23 visitors fell into the water and sustained minor injuries when the U Bein Bridge in Taungthaman village of Amarapura Township collapsed.
The U Bein Bridge in Taungthaman village collapsed because it couldn’t bear the weight of the visitors at around 2:10 pm on 29 October.
“Two spans of the bridge were broken on the eastern side, causing those in that section falling into the water. This incident occurred on a day with many visitors. Various relevant and social organizations carried out rescue measures,” U Tun Hla from Sagaing, a bridge visitor told to the GNLM.
Members of the Amarapura Township Fire Station and other related organizations rushed to the scene for providing assistance. As a result of the incident, 15 male and eight female visitors fell into the water and received injuries (not serious). — TWA/KZW
