300 women with disability receive K50,000 assistance each


The Department of Rehabilitation under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement supported K50,000 each to 300 women with disability from 11 states and regions in COVID-19 period in cooperation with Shwe Mintha Foundation.
“Our Shwe Mintha Foundation supported K50,000 to 300 women in the pandemic period in cooperation with the Department of Rehabilitation. We went to their houses and gave them the cash from 7 to 18 September. Currently, the data collection is being conducted by the government in the wards to provide the persons with disability,” said Ko Kyaw Htet Aung, the person in charge of Shwe Mintha Foundation from Myanmar Head Office.
According to the 2014 census, there are around 2.3 million persons with disabilities in Myanmar. The Department of Rehabilitation provided K30,000 each to 200,000 persons with disabilities from across the country in cooperation with the social disabilities associations.
“The government provided K30,000 to them from the wards and villages. The associations are also collecting the data to report to the department,” he added. The government is also providing cash to the low-income people for their convenience in COVID-19 period. —Myint Maung (Translated by Hay Mar)
