Myanmar hosts ASEAN wildlife-related meetings virtually

Myanmar hosted the 16th ASEAN Working Group on CITES and Wildlife Enforcement and the 2nd ASEAN Technical Meeting on Development of ASEAN Handbook on Legal Cooperation to Combat Illegal Wildlife Trade on 26 and 27 May via videoconferencing.
During the meetings, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Dr Nyi Nyi Kyaw discussed the enactment of the law in order to combat illegal trade of wildlife, flora and fauna, the draft of plans to eradicate illicit wildlife trade, activities to draw the attention of local populace for biodiversity conservation, and cooperation works between departments concerned and ASEAN regions.
The ASEAN member countries, the international organizations, including the CITES’ Secretariat Office and ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity, then presented the law enforcement on the illegal trade of wildlife.
A total of 116 delegations from ASEAN, the Forest Department and other relevant international organizations joined the meetings. – MNA
