The Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement held the coordination meeting on the ASEAN Secretariat’s draft proposal for humanitarian assistance to Myanmar yesterday morning via an online system.
Union Minister Dr Thet Thet Khine said humanitarian assistance would be provided to Myanmar through the ASEAN Humanitarian Assistance and Coordination Centre for Disaster Management (AHA Centre), which is one of the five points agreed upon by the ASEAN leaders.
She said the draft proposal submitted by the ASEAN Secretariat, which includes COVID-19 vaccines, medical supplies and humanitarian assistance to Myanmar, is a proposal that will benefit the country. It is important to implement it as per the duties and responsibilities of the Ministry as well as with the coordination of the relevant ministries and departments.
She added the need to form a technical working group for the effective implementation; to receive the timely information on natural disasters in each region/state so that it can be delivered humanitarian supplies to the affected people as soon as possible.
The Deputy Director-General of the Disaster Management Department briefed on the draft humanitarian action plan drawn up by the ASEAN Secretariat and the Permanent Secretary added necessary matters.
Upon the discussion, the Union Minister, the Deputy Minister, the Permanent Secretary and Directors-General provided the necessary guidance and procedures for the development of better and effective cooperation, points that need to be further adjusted and matters to be submitted to the relevant departments to obtain policy guidance. — MNA
