The 54th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting took place on 2 August, focusing on the appointment of a special envoy of the Alternate Chairman of ASEAN mentioned in the five common agreements adopted by the ASEAN Leaders Meeting held on 24 April.
At the meeting, ASEAN alternate chairmanship country Brunei withdrew the previous nominations for the special envoy and amended its proposal for Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof, Brunei Foreign Affairs Minister (II) as the special envoy of the ASEAN alternate chairman in line with the guidance of the Sultan of Brunei Darussalam, who is the ASEAN alternate chairman.
Myanmar approved to agree on Dato Erywan Pehin Yusof, Brunei Foreign Affairs Minister (II) as the special envoy to Myanmar, proposed by Brunei, the alternate chairmanship of ASEAN, at the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held yesterday morning. — MNA
