Union Information Minister instructs staff to make efforts for news media development, access to information

Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn inspected the Copyrights and Registration Division in Winkabar road of Bahan Township and Pyinnya Alinn Library in Pansodan street of Kyauktada Township of Yangon Region yesterday, and discussed various measures to be carried out to develop the news media and provide true information to the people.
During his first visit to Copyrights and Registration Division, he talked about the work plans being conducted in line with five-point roadmap and nine objectives. He also said in doing so, some unscrupulous persons are committing destructive elements. Especially, some media outlets use a variety of media platforms to spread fake news and propaganda while the ministry normally permits the publishing and distribution industries in line with the law and rules.
Similarly, the ministry supports the media industry in accord with the News Media Law. It also needs to provide the needed assistance to develop that sector and on the other hand, it should control to keep the ethics.
Positive views on the actions of the government are to be welcomed, but it should uncover the dissemination of fake news in line with the respective laws. He called on the employees to prevent any misinformation and to make every effort to ensure that the public has access to true information.
Then, the Union Minister went to Pyinnya Alinn Library and instructed officials to develop the public reading habits and disseminate accurate information through libraries. Moreover, he stressed the needs to provide various newspapers, journals and magazines at every library including the books that can lure the interest of students, prioritize the literatures that can support the living of youths and offer motivation and development of youths and conduct upgrade works to Digital Library Service.—MNA
