Myanmar team included in tough group of AFF U-19 Championships 2022

Drawing-lots ceremonies for the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) U-19 Championships 2022 in which the Myanmar team are participating was held on 9 June.
All 11 Southeast Asian nations will compete in the tournament, which will be held in Indonesia from 2 to 15 July.
According to the drawing-lots, Group A sees the host Indonesia, Myanmar, Viet Nam, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, and the Philippines while Malaysia, Laos, Timor-Leste, Cambodia and Singapore are participating in Group B.
The Myanmar team has been taking training for international competitions this year, including this one, since the Thingyan period, with U Soe Myat Min being the head coach.
The Myanmar U-19 team played three friendly matches at home during the training period and won two matches, and lost one.
The annual competition was launched in 2002, but it has not been held for some years, and the tourney will resume this year as the 18th version.
Of the 17 matches completed, the Thai and Australian teams are the most successful with five times winning each, followed by the Myanmar team with two times winning.
In turn, Malaysia, Indonesia, Viet Nam, Iran, and Japan have won one at a time.
The ASEAN Football Federation has invited Asian powerhouses to compete for some years, with Japan and Iran among the winners. The last competition was held in 2019 and the Australian team won, but Myanmar did not participate that time. — Ko Nyi Lay/GNLM
