Illegal teak, fuel, industrial raw materials, powered schooners and vehicles confiscated

Supervised by the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee, effective action is being taken against offenders to prevent illicit trade under the law.
An on-duty team under the supervision of the Customs Department made inspections at the Asia World container checkpoint on 21 September. Officials found 13,600 kilogrammes of velvet elastic band that exceeded the Import Declaration (ID) and were worth K48,552,000. The team also seized electronic devices at an estimated value of K61,302,000, which were not declared in the ID in a container at the airport cargo warehouse at the Yangon International Airport on 22 September. The total worth of seizures amounted to K61,302,000 and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Similarly, a combined inspection team under the supervision of the Customs Department made inspections at the Mayanchaung checkpoint on 21 and 23 September. They found 1,116 litres of vegetable oil worth K3,085,000, which were not declared in the ID and the two vehicles (estimated at K25 million) carrying the goods. The total worth of seizures amounted to K28,085,000 and the action was taken under the Customs Procedures.
Furthermore, a coast guard gunboat patrolled the territory under the supervision of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force of Thaninthayi Region on 23 September. They found two trawlers estimated at K7 million from 2.4 miles northeast and 1.8 miles north of Pigeon Island using restricted fishing nets that can damage the floor of the ocean. The action was taken under the Myanmar Fisheries Law.
Then, the inspection team under the supervision of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force of Sagaing Region made inspections at the Kyweye combination checkpoint of Monywa township on 24 September. Officials found four vehicles without licences at the estimated value of K15,900,000. They also seized a motorcycle without a licence estimated at K9 million. The total worth of seizures amounted to K24,900,000 and the actions were taken under the Export and Import Law.
Next, a combined inspection team, under the supervision of the Anti-Illegal Trade Task Force of the Bago region, led by the Region Forest Department in Pyu township in the Toungoo district. They found 0.187 tonnes of illegal teak estimated at K28,050 and the action was taken under the Forest Law.
Therefore, 14 cases at an estimated value of K121,315,050 were taken action from 21 to 24 September, according to the Anti-Illegal Trade Steering Committee. — MNA
