Excavation and reconstruction are underway for the ancient Hanthawady city's southern rampart.

Excavation of old Hanthawady city’s southern rampart is carried out under the guidance of the Bago Region Government. The work is being done by PSE-Bagan Co Ltd under the supervision of the Bago Region Department of Archaeology and National Museums starting from 10 December 2022.
The old city of Hanthawady was established by King Bayintnaung, who founded the second kingdom of Myanmar. There was a moat surrounding the rampart and there were five gates on each side of the city rampart.
PSE Bagan Co Ltd is reconstructing the old city wall with K148.55 million from the Bago regional government fund. The work is expected to be completed on 15 March 2023. — Aung Phyu Lin-Min Htet Kyaw/KZW
